Global Awareness & Courageous Advocacy

Global Awareness and Courageous Advocacy at Weeton St Michael’s

At Weeton St Michael’s, we place a high value on helping children develop a rich understanding of the wider world—one that takes them far beyond their local community.

Through carefully planned opportunities, pupils are introduced to the themes of Global Awareness, nurtured and championed by school leadership and the RE subject leader.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Religious Education, Collective Worship and spiritual development—both in class and as a whole school—enable pupils to explore a wide range of faiths, beliefs and world issues. These experiences help children develop respect, curiosity and empathy as they learn about the diverse global community to which they belong.

Active Global Citizens

Our pupils take an active role in global citizenship through our worship leaders and Young Citizen Clubs. These are made up of representatives from all year groups. The leaders meet regularly to plan and lead initiatives within school and the wider community.

Community Engagement and Charity Support

The school maintains strong links with the wider community and supports charities locally, nationally and internationally.
Pupils understand that their actions can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

Our Aim: To Nurture Active Global Citizens

We aspire for our children to grow as active, responsible Global Citizens who:

  • Love the world

  • Observe and help the planet

  • Bring about positive change

  • Accept and celebrate differences

  • Look after the environment

  • Create a better place

  • Include everyone

  • Improve the community

  • Help others

  • Enjoy asking questions

  • Solve problems

Courageous Advocacy

Weeton St Michael’s is proud to be a community of courageous advocates—standing up for the common good locally, nationally and globally. We recognise that life brings both joys and challenges, and we encourage our pupils to support others, show compassion and act with integrity.

We believe every person has value, purpose and potential. Our Christian vision teaches us that everyone has something important to contribute. We therefore advocate for justice, kindness, inclusion and hope—helping pupils to see that they can be a force for good in the world.

Living Out Our Values

Our children learn the importance of:

  • Taking responsibility

  • Caring for themselves and others

  • Understanding their influence and impact

  • Standing up for what is right

  • Challenging injustice

  • Asking big questions

  • Acting for positive change

Together with staff, governors, parents, pupils and the church community, we identify and support causes that reflect our values and strengthen our commitment to making the world a better place.
